About

I am a freelance archivist and records manager based in London with over 30 years experience in the field.

I decided to focus on freelance and contract work about 10 years ago as I felt there should be an easier way for small and large organizations and individuals to understand and manage their archival collections.

A bit of background, after a degree in the History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Leeds, I worked for the Wellcome Library and as acting archivist at the British Records Association  before going on to undertake professional archival and records management training at University College Dublin.

I was subsequently the first qualified archivist employed by the National Gallery where I stayed for three years cataloguing and rehousing their collections as well as setting up their records management programme. I then had roles at the Science Museum, the National Archives and Southampton University. I  have since managed archives and archival projects for several other museums, art galleries, charities, retailers (including Sainsbury's) as well as medical societies and Royal Colleges (Royal College of Surgeons, Royal College of General Practitioners, Royal Society of Medicine and the British Psychological Society).

In recent years I have specialized in freelance and short term projects particularly cataloguing projects, including Sir Alan Parker papers at the British Film Institute and HLF funded projects for the Printmakers Council (now at the V&A) and the Ben Uri Gallery as well as exhibitions, webpages, tours and displays, policy reviews, appraisal, records management and digital preservation.

I am equally comfortable using archive software such as Calm and Adlib or utilizing generic google or Microsoft products  excel, sheets,  word or documents. I have excellent project management and photo editing skills (Photoshop and InDesign) and I continually update my professional and practical knowledge. I recently completed DPC Digital Preservation Courses, the National Archives training in data protection (GDPR) and a British Library/Oral History Society course in the management of oral history projects. I am currently working on an ILM certificate in management.

I am a registered member of the Archives and Records Association and the International Records Management Society.
